Lookup Matching

Lookup matching is a process that compares an individual customer record to those in the D&B Common Customer Directory to find the best match, if one exists. The process uses scoring to compare and measure how similar an input record is to a candidate reference record in order to properly match it up to the correct record and maintain current, accurate, consistent customer records.

Use the Lookup feature to match candidates based on criteria you enter, such as Company Name or D-U-N-S Number. Predefined Workflow templates are included with D&B Integration Manager, or you can create your own Workflow templates to define the parameters that D&B Integration Manager uses to match candidates.

Lookup Process

D&B Integration Manager returns the best match based on your parameters followed by additional matches for the criteria you entered. This transactional matching process ensures that only the best matches for a lookup are returned. For example, if you work in the banking industry and a new organization approaches you to open a corporate banking account, you can use D&B Integration Manager to look up the organization. You can then validate whether it is an existing organization and obtain details about the organization, such as its D-U-N-S Number, family information, and other enhanced data elements so that you can make a sound business decision.

Lookup Process Workflow

  1. Create a Lookup Workflow.

Workflows store and manage parameters that control how the software matches candidates, determines the quality of the matches, and sets rules for tie-breakers. D&B Integration Manager uses these parameters to match your criteria when you perform a lookup. Depending on the type of lookup you want to run, you can set up different parameters in the appropriate lookup workflow.

  1. Set up Data Views.

Create a data view and assign it to a workflow. The data view determines how D&B Integration Manager displays your results. You define the fields that display for your match results and in what order they display.

  1. Run a Lookup.

The four types of lookups include:

  • Lookup: matches by attributes of the business entity.
  • DUNS Number lookup: matches DUNS number.
  • SQL lookup: builds a SQL script to perform a lookup based on an exact value.
  • Unicode lookup: performs an exact search for company names that have characters other than those included in the ISO-8859 character set.
  • NLMI lookup: matches native language data form China, Japan, and Taiwan.

Enter your criteria, for example a company name or DUNS Number, and click Find.

  1. View Match Results.

Link match results to existing candidates or insert candidates in your local database. A Family Tree Workflow displays family tree information about a candidate. For more information about this process, refer to the D&B Integration Manager.
